Indian woman named Businesswoman of the Year in Australia

  • Uppma Virdi, an Indian hailing from Punjab and settled in Australia received the ‘Businesswoman of the Year Award’ at the India Australia Business Community Awards held in Sydney. 
  • Virdi, a lawyer by profession, is the founder of the start-up ‘Chai Walli’, which sells tea blended with different flavours. She also holds ‘Art of Chai’ workshops in Australia.. 

Lecture series on TV to help students clear IIT entrance

  • Starting January 1, a lecture series called “IIT Pal” will be telecast on a national television channel by the government to help students who cannot afford coaching classes clear the IIT entrance exam. 
  • About 80% of the teachers recording the lectures are from IIT Delhi 
  • There would be 200 lectures each on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Andhra Pradesh tops in energy efficiency

  • The World Bank has ranked A.P. as number one in ‘Energy Efficiency Implementation Readiness’ with an overall score of 42.01. 
  • The ranking figures in a study report of the bank titled: ‘India’s State Level Energy Efficiency Implementation Readiness’ . 
  • The report was launched here on Friday by Subash Garg, WB Executive Director.

President approves 2% hike in Dearness Allowance.

  • President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday approved the 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) to central government employees. 
  • It would benefit 50.68 lakh employees and 54.24 lakh pensioners 
  • Earlier this year, DA was hiked 6% to 125% of the basic pay.

  • Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has been named the Indian ambassador for Switzerland Tourism
