    To tap opportunities in the defence MRO segment, Air India Engineering Services today joined hands with Tribhuvan Technologies for a strategic partnership to help the national carrier diversify its revenue stream.

    As there are not many Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in India, the segment provides significant growth opportunities. While Air India does all these work within the country, most airlines carry them out overseas, at a much higher cost.

    • Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has launched the SMS Alert Service for direct taxes for about 2.5 crore private and Government salaried employees at a function in New Delhi
    • The new step is an effort by the Income Tax Department to directly communicate deposit of tax deducted, through SMS alerts at the end of every quarter.
    • The Department will soon extend this facility to another 4.4 crore non-salaried taxpayers.

    • The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reports the level of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere has reached a record high in 2016.
    • According to WMO, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached 400 parts per million for the first time in 2015 and surged to new records this year.
    • It is not possible to tackle climate change without tackling CO2 emissions because the lifetime of this greenhouse gas is very long.

    Tata replaces Cyrus Mistry as chairman with Ratan Tata

                           
    • The Tata Sons Board has appointed Ratan Tata (78-year) as the interim chairman of the group for four months at a Board meeting in Mumbai.
    • He has replaced Cyrus Mistry (48-year).
    • Cyrus Mistry is the son of Pallonji, who controls nearly 18% of the equity in Tata Sons.
    • Ratan Tata was the previous chairman and was in charge of the company for more than two decades until he stepped down in 2012.
