Union Government announces package for promotion of digital & cashless economy

  • Govt introduces a package of incentives for promotion of digital and cashless economy
  • 0.75% discount on purchase of petrol/diesel through digital means
  • Deployment of 2 POS devices each in 1 Lakh villages with population of less than 10,000
  • Discount upto 0.5% for monthly or seasonal tickets from January 1, 2017, if payment is made digitally
  • All railway passengers buying online ticket shall be given free accidental insurance cover of upto Rs. 10 lakh
    Union Cabinet approves Pune Metro Rail Project Phase – 1

     

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the development of Phase – 1 of the Pune Metro Rail Corridor Project.
  • It will be covering a length of 31.254 km comprising with two corridors Corridor-1 (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate) and Corriodor-2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi).
  • The project is scheduled to be completed in five years from the date of start of work as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
  • The Project will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO).
  • The total completion cost of the metro rail corridor will be Rs.11,420 crore. MAHA-METRO will be a 50:50 jointly owned company of Union Government and Maharashtra Government.

    Bluetooth 5 with double speed, 4 times longer range launched

  • Bluetooth Special Interest Group, the not-for-profit corporation that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards, has officially adopted ‘Bluetooth 5’ after its introduction in June.
  • The latest version claims four times the range, twice the speed and eight times the amount of data in broadcast messages.

    Helen Marten wins Turner prize, securing second big award in a month

     

  • Helen Marten has sealed her position as one of the UK’s most exciting young artists after being named the winner of the 2016 Turner prize, her second big award in the space of a month.
  • The 31-year-old artist, who was born in Macclesfield, was presented with her £25,000 prize by the writer Ben Okri at a ceremony at London’s Tate Britain gallery.
  • It comes only weeks after she won the £30,000 Hepworth Prize for Sculpture.

    CBI arrests former Air Force chief SP Tyagi in AgustaWestland bribery case

  • In a sudden and first of its kind action, the CBI on Friday arrested former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi , his cousin Sanjeev, and a lawyer in the sensational Rs 450 crore bribery case in the procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters from UK-based AgustaWestland during the UPA-2 government.
  • India ranks 7th in 2016 Global Terrorism Index

  • According to the 2016 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) India was ranked 7th among 163 countries in the list of most impacted by terrorism in 2015.
  • The fourth edition of the index was released by Sydney-based think-tank Institute for Economics & Peace.
  • India is one of six Asian countries ranked in the top 10 nations most impacted by terrorism.
